HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Florence "Flo" Krieger Mercury, 94, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, at her home in Hagerstown, Maryland.
She was born in Shamokin, Sept. 24, 1927, a third of four daughters of John and Mary (Borusiewicz) Krieger. They lived on North Franklin Street on Bunker Hill, in Shamokin.
Flo attended St. Stanislaus School and Shamokin High School.
She worked at W.T. Grant, Shroyer's Dress Factory and the Arrow Shirt Co.
In 1950, Flo married Anthony "Tony" Mercury, in St. Stanislaus Church. They had two children, James and Suzanne.
In 1962, they moved to Hagerstown, where Flo enjoyed her work for many years as a sales clerk in a local department store.
She was skilled in painting, crafts, sewing, needlework and baking. She made many beautiful items working with the St. Joseph Church craft group to sell in their Christmas and Easter bazaars.
Flo and Tony both loved road trips. She was especially fond of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, in Maine.
Florence is survived by her son, James Mercury, and her daughter, Suzanne Mercury, both of Hagerstown, Maryland; a brother, John Krieger and his wife, Pat, of Easton, Maryland; a friend, Mary Ann Daly; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Tony, Florence was preceded in death by her three sisters, Jean Krieger and Dorothy Navrocki, both of Shamokin, and Mary Hawk, of Middletown.
