Margaret Mary Duceman

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — Margaret Mary Duceman, of Loudonville, N.Y., formerly of Elysburg, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 13, 2013.

She was born in Trevorton, Aug. 5, 1929, a daughter of the late Mary Runkel and Fred Deeben.

She raised a family in Shamokin and had many interests and passions. She loved to paint landscapes and flowers and enjoyed spending summers in her yard gardening. She was especially fond of travelling, with visits to several western states, Barbados, Jamaica, Toronto, Florida, Virginia, New York City, and Cape Cod, Mass., and always looked forward to local trips through the rolling hills of central Pennsylvania.

In her younger years she was a seamstress and was later active in Cub Scouts, local art classes and church functions. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Shamokin.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John Albert Duceman. Margaret and John resided in Elysburg for more than 18 years. She eventually left Elysburg and moved to Albany, N.Y., where her eldest son, Barry, resides. She lived independently for a few years, but eventually needed more care, becoming a resident of the Loudonville Home for Adults in Loudonville.

Margaret leaves a legacy of three children, Barry Duceman, of Albany, N.Y., Dennis Duceman, of Elysburg, and Mark Duceman, of Reston, Va., and a grandchild, Katherine Duceman. She is survived by a brother, Richard Jones, of Mount Carmel.

Margaret's greatest joy was her family and friends. She was particularly proud of her granddaughter, Katherine, who excelled in her college studies, worked in the White House for President Obama and is currently enrolled in a graduate program in Paris, France.

DUCEMAN — Margaret Mary Duceman, of Loudonville, N.Y., formerly of Elysburg. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Farrow Funeral Home, 240 W. Chestnut St., Shamokin, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Peiffer presiding. Burial will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. A viewing will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
