ELYSBURG - Matthew Allen Weikel, 44, of 165 W. Mount Carmel Ave., a beloved son of Henrietta (Leiby) Hine and Jeffery Weikel, passed away Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at his home.
He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, March 17, 1977.
Matthew graduated from Shamokin Area High School.
He was last employed by Drogalis Construction, in Coal Township.
Matt loved to go fishing and spend time on the links playing golf. An avid sports fan, his favorite teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Phillies and the University of Michigan Wolverines. He also enjoyed following the NASCAR circuit.
He is survived by his parents, Henrietta Hine and her husband, Ron Hine Jr., and Jeffery Weikel and his longtime companion, Connie Smink; a brother, Scott Weikel and his wife, Karena, and their sons, Lucas and Sean, of Paxinos; a sister, Kimberly Weikel, of Coal Township; a stepbrother, Michael Hine and his companion, Mariah Glosek, and their sons, Brayden and Benjamin, of Shamokin; a stepgrandmother, Carol Rebuck, of Paxinos; Devin Pietkiewciz, whom Matthew thought of as a son; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Ron Hine III; and grandparents, Rosemarie Leiby and John and Eleanor Weikel.
WEIKEL - Matthew Allen Weikel, 44, of 165 W. Mount Carmel Ave. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township. A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Hershberger officiating. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Oasis Community Recovery Club, 210 E. Independence St., Shamokin 17872.
