Michael Spade Obituary

CONWAY, S.C. — Michael Richard Spade Jr., 18, of 11 N. Grant St., Shamokin, loving son of Peggy M. Delorso, of Coal Township, and Michael R. Spade Sr., of Shamokin, passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Coastal Carolina University, where he was a student.

He was born at Bloomsburg Hospital, Bloomsburg, Nov, 18, 1993.

Michael was in his first year attending Coastal Carolina University where he received a full athletic golf scholarship. His aspiration after his graduation from college was to teach young children the joys and techniques of golf; the game he so loved to play. He was a 2012 graduate of Shamokin Area High School, where he was an honor roll student. While attending Shamokin Area, "Spadie" played on the varsity teams in golf and basketball and also, in earlier years, played on the baseball team. In high school, he was a member of the 1864 Club and Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Club.

Michael enjoyed being active in the outdoors, whether golfing, fishing or camping. He also enjoyed playing guitar and video games. He loved spending time with his family, but especially dear to him was the time he spent socializing with his many friends.

He worked the past two years at Knoebel's Three Ponds Golf Course, Elysburg, in the Pro Shop and as an assistant-to-the-pro.

In addition to loving and adoring parents, his mother, Peggy Delorso, of Coal Township, and father and stepmother, Michael R. Spade Sr. and Mandy (Brassington) Spade, of Shamokin, Michael is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Frank M. and Sandra Delorso, of Shamokin; maternal great-grandfathers, Frank Delorso Sr., of Sunbury, husband of the late Jane Delorso, and Dave Reed, of Shamokin, husband of the late Peggy Reed; paternal grandmother, Anne Spade, of Shamokin; paternal grandparents, Daniel and Terrie Bamford, of Paxinos; special cousins, Travis Wegrzynowicz, who was more like a brother, of Elysburg, Ryan Schuck, of Shamokin, and Tommy Reed, of Shamokin, and aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.

Peggy, Mike, Mandy and families, My heart is heavy for you, it's a loss that cannot be fathomed. Please accept our sincere condolences. Michael was an amazing kid and you all had so much to be proud of. I wish there was something I could do to take away your pain. You were amazingly strong and poised. I found this prayer I thought might be appropriate, God Bless you all.

“God, bring comfort and peace. Peace is your essence. Peace is your name. Bring peace to the Spade/Delorso family who has lost their precious Michael in death.

We come to you, God because we know that you sorrow, and are acquainted with grief. You too have endured the loss of a child. You empathize.

We can't help but ask, “Why?” Forgive our insistence, our confusion, even our anger. We believe that you are just, and we ache to understand how this tragic death is an expression of that justice, how it expresses your love. We also know – in our minds at least – that you seldom answer the “why?” question. We press you, but on these matters you are mostly silent.

What we ask instead is “how?” How can we move forward? How can this bring us together and not tear us apart? How can we now live under the shadow of Michael's untimely death? Answer this prayer with your comfort and guidance.

There is no way to remove the pain. The grief is real. The only sanity is to know, to believe, in a life beyond with you, when all the scales are righted and the sufferings are made good. We trust you and your promise that while this child's life on earth is done, his life beyond has just begun. With that release we lose him and let him go into your arms, then by faith receive in return the boundless comfort of your presence. That is all, that is enough. In Jesus.”

We are connected,
My child and I, by
An invisible cord
Not seen by the eye.

It's not like the cord
That connects us 'til birth
This cord can't been seen
By any on Earth.

This cord does it's work
Right from the start.
It binds us together
Attached to my heart.

I know that it's there
Though no one can see
The invisible cord
From my child to me.

The strength of this cord
Is hard to describe.
It can't be destroyed
It can't be denied.

It's stronger than any cord
Man could create
It withstands the test
Can hold any weight.

And though you are gone,
Though you're not here with me,
The cord is still there
But no one can see.

It pulls at my heart
I am bruised...I am sore,
But this cord is my lifeline
As never before.

I am thankful that God
Connects us this way
A mother and child
Death can't take it away!

The loss of spade has had a devastating effect on everyone I know. We were really close friends all through middle and high school, he had a way of making every day a little brighter and easier not just for me, but for everyone who knew him. He could easily brighten a room and have everyone laughing. He was a great person and it's really heartbreaking to see him leave us. I send my thoughts and prayers to his family and the rest of his friends.

I graduated with Michael and was in several classes with him. Every time he walked into the room, the air was thick with his energy and there was never a dull moment. He was somehow able to make a boring subject like probability and statistics turn into a fun and humorous class with numerous random discussions that would take most of the class period. He and I weren't friends or anything, but he was one funny guy. My condolences to the family and friends. I know how close Ryan Schuck, Tommy and him were from a bystander's point of view and I can only imagine how much pain everyone is feeling. You are all in my thoughts.
