Robert Madden Obituary

RANSHAW — Robert R. Madden, 84, of 125 Clay St., died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born at home in Ranshaw on Sept. 13, 1923, he was a son of the late James H. and Sarah (Boyd) Madden.

He was a lifelong resident of Ranshaw.

He was a 1941 graduate of Coal Township High School and attended the GI School for carpentry in Trevorton.

He served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Army 619th Engineer Base Equipment Company from Feb. 13, 1943, until he was honorably discharged on Jan. 15, 1946. While serving his country, he received the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was married in St. Peter's Church, Mount Carmel, on Jan. 24, 1948, to the former Pauline Shupinski, who survives.

He was a retiree of the U.S. Penitentiary in Lewisburg, where he was employed as a corrections officer, and a retiree of Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a shuttle bus driver.

He was a member of the Atlas Legion and a life member of Brady Fire Company.

He was a member of Johnston City United Methodist Church, Ranshaw.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert A. and Delores Madden of Danville and Stephen A. Madden of Ranshaw; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laurie A. and Earl Andreas of Bethlehem and Louise M. and Patrick Clausius of Mechanicsville, Md.; five grandchildren, Robert H. Madden and wife Diana of Norristown, Melissa and Kyle Andreas of Bethlehem, and Daniel and Katie Clausius of Mechanicsville, and a brother, James Madden of Coal Township. He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert, and a sister, Miriam Motichek.

MADDEN — Robert R. Madden, 84, of 125 Clay St., Ranshaw. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont, with Pastor Beverly Petrovich officiating. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., Virginia M. Lucas, supervisor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Robert R.
