MOUNT CARMEL — On the eve of Saturday, March 25, 2017, as most were preparing for bed, Rosaland Catherine Bixler Duttinger's Lord and savior was preparing his table to receive her soul. During a star lit night with family and friends by her side, the Lord's Table was set and Roz went with him to be free of pain and suffering.
Roz started her life's story July 12,1940, as the last of 10 children born to her parents, Reginald and Sarah (Hertzog) Bixler. She was preceded in birth by Hilda, Dorothy, Franklin, Melvin, Gordon, Reginald, Archabald, Winifred and Gail.
Roz stated working at an early age in the area's local garment factories. She was an active member of the ILGWU. She would do vaudeville acts with the union and that is how she met her lifetime friend, Marion Thomas. Their friendship saw them through marriages, children and deaths. They were sisters by love. Along with family, Marion and her family were present to help her transition from this world to the promised land.
Along her life's journey she also worked at Paper Magic, Elysburg, and personal care homes, where she made many friends.
During her early 20s, she met and married Kenneth E. Duttinger. Their union created two daughters, Kim Sobol and Trish Greager, both of Shamokin, who gave her two loving sons-in-law, Francis "Fritz" Sobol and Christopher Greager. This brought her her greatest joy and blessings, her grandchildren, Ashley Duttinger and Cheyanne, Gabrielle and Mackenzie Greager. She was also able to meet and love two great-grandchildren, Maximus Rogers and Nixon Rogers. Roz is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Weaver, of Coal Township, and Gail Miller, of Irish Valley.
In addition to her parents, Reginald and Sarah Bixler, she was preceded in death by Hilda Thompson, of Oklahoma, Franklin Bixler, of Shamokin, Melvin Bixler, of Selinsgrove, Reginald Bixler, of Selinsgrove, Archabald Bixler, who died in infancy, Winifred Kergres, of Harrisburg, and Gordon Bixler, of West Cameron.
