ELYSBURG - Theodore "Ted" Bohaczyk, 93, of Elysburg, passed into eternal life on Sunday, May 9, 2021, in the presence of his family at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Feb. 21, 1928, in West Cameron Township, a son of the late Harry and Olga (Novak) Bohaczyk.
He and his 14 siblings grew up on a small farm, growing their own food, raising chickens, baking their own bread, and playing many musical instruments together. Ted's love and talent for the guitar would stay with him throughout his life.
As a teenager, Ted worked as a fur trapper, and also drove a coal truck. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 26, 1946, and served in the 63rd Infantry as a Utility Repairman in occupied South Korea, until he was honorably discharged on March 13, 1948.
After leaving the military, he moved to Chicago, and opened his own bar, the Rumble Inn ("You rumble in… and then you stagger out!") on Madison Street. He worked various jobs (Teepak, Monsanto, and Walgreen's, from which he retired), and was best known as "Teddy the Painter" for his first-rate house painting, which he continued into his late eighties.
On June 29, 1967, in Chicago, he married Sherlie Branam, now deceased. They were married for 49 years until her passing in 2016.
In addition to his wife and parents, Ted is preceded in death by eight brothers, Alexander, Samuel, John, George, Daniel, Peter, Metro, and Walter; and six sisters, Pauline, Kathryn, Mary, Anna, Mildred, and Olga.
Ted is survived by his daughters, Cynthia, and her husband Steve Tracy, of Chicago, Sandra Harkness, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Deborah, and her husband Gary Davis, of Paxinos; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jared), Katlyn, Elizabeth, Cailee, and Noelle; sister-in-law Olga Bohaczyk; former wife Frances Murrah; and many nieces and nephews.
