SHAMOKIN - It is with great sadness that the family of William B. "Bill" Stankunas Jr., 89, of Shamokin, announces his passing, Friday, May 26, 2023. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters.
He was born May 14, 1934, a son of the late William B. Sr. and Elva (Landau) Stankunas.
Upon graduating from Shamokin High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in Korea.
Bill will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, MaryAnn (Butkey) Stankunas, whom he married July 9, 1960.
He had a career working in various mechanical fields. He worked on objects as complex as planes, down to the simplest of sewing machines.
Bill was very involved in his local church, where he spent many years serving as deacon and teaching Sunday school.
Bill was a family man who dedicated his life to his wife, four daughters and grandchildren. He loved attending family picnics and get-togethers. The holidays were his favorite!
Bill is survived by his wife, MaryAnn; four daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Jeff Goodman, of Paxinos, Gail Ramer, of Coal Township, Laura and Tony Rompolski, of Coal Township, and Nicole Ross, of Hanover Township; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Goodman and his fiancée, Angel Wright, and Kelsey Goodman, Kayla and Brianne Ramer, Derek Rompolski and his wife, Kayleigh, and their daughter, River, Ryan Rompolski and his girlfriend, Casey Wilson, and Adyn and Nathan Ross; a brother, James; two sisters, Carol and Violet; and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas; and sisters, Audrey and Eileen.
"Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." Matthew 25:21.
STANKUNAS - William B. "Bill" Stankunas Jr., 89, of Shamokin. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Calvary Bible Fellowship Church, 35 S. Second St., Shamokin. A celebration of life service will begin at the church at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ferd Madara officiating. Naval military honors will also be performed at the church. The Stankunas family has entrusted arrangements to the James Kelley Funeral Home, James F. Kelley, director, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.
