James W. Painter, Sr.

Staunton - James William Painter, Sr., 62, husband of Deborah Ann (Bennett) Painter, of 106 Sheets Street, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 after a lengthy illness.

He was born August 12, 1955 in Staunton, a son of Janet (Painter) McNeill and the late Joe Griffin.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Scott Bennett Painter; father-in-law, Robert McNeill; and grandmother, Maida Brown Painter.

In addition to his wife and mother, family members include nine children, Orion J. Painter and Melanie Wade, Toby Painter and wife, Glenna, Crystal Shaver and husband, Tim, P.J. and Malinda Painter, Sherry Dunnsmore and husband, Stacey, Tonya Painter and husband, Wilburt, Elvis and Megan Bennett, Jennifer and Reggie Green, and Frankie Bennett and girlfriend, Patience Steppe; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joann and Jerry Jackson and Hazel and Harold Parton; brother and sister-in-law, Durwood and Betty Griffin; grandchildren, Jimmy, Zachary, and Devon Painter, Travis Shaver, James Painter, I, James Painter, II, Brittany, Jeffery and Gracie Biby, Debbie, Anastasha, Little Will and India Painter, Braylee and Kelsey Hebb, Samantha, Ellie, and Eli Bennett, Audrey and Zepplin Bennett, and Haylee, Kendayle and Malachi Bennett; great grandchildren, Colt and J.W. Painter; special friends, Tonya Hebb, Harry Adkins, and Dominick Cason; and long-life friend, Herbie Davis.
