Dr. William Timothy Sweeney

Age: 73 • Churchville

Dr. William Timothy Sweeney, age 73, of 215 Stover Shop Road passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017.

Born February 8, 1943 in Bellevue, Pa., he was a son of William Timothy, Sr. and Hildegarde (Gunderson) Sweeney. He graduated from the University of Virginia and received DDS and PhD degrees from the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Sweeney taught anatomy courses at MCV for a number of years and then practiced dentistry in Churchville from 1976 until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Middlebrook Hounds Hunt Club. His interests included fox hunting, gardening, bicycling, stone work and traveling through Ireland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Norman Sweeney; and his companion, Barbara Ronan Burdette. Surviving are his three daughters, Cara Rogers and husband Christopher of Richmond, Jennifer Quindoza and husband Gerry of Midlothian, and Dr. Christabel Sweeney and husband Dr. Mark Zemanovich of Middletown; a sister, Mary Jane Bowman and husband Richard of Florida and six grandchildren, Anne-Claire, Ian and Miles Quindoza, and Ellie, Lila and Andrew Rogers.

A private burial will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Winchester.
