Annie Vanderpool Obituary

Annie Katherine Vanderpool passed away peacefully on Dec. 17, 2024, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital. She was 60 years old.

Annie was born in the family home in Northway on July 9, 1964, to Floyd and Polly (Demit) Hyslop. She is from the Niisuu clan in the Upper Tanana region. The family moved to Galena in 1965 before settling in Tanana in 1967. She attended Tanana School and graduated from Victory High School in 1982.

Annie was married to William Vanderpool in 1983. Together they had two daughters, Charlene and Amanda. Afterward, she settled in Tanana and built a home with James Folger. They had their son, Tyler, and raised their family there. She was known for her amazing ability to cook and bake. Annie was a member of Teamsters. She was a truck driver at Prudhoe Bay and worked for Cruz Construction for several years. She also drove for Toogha Water and Sewer, Brice, BLM, Tanana Tribe, AIC, and Nanuq, She liked to call herself a "mother-trucker." When she was home, she worked as a cook at the Tanana Elder's residence. Above all, she spent all her time doting on her grandchildren - the light and joys of her life. She was known as "Granny Annie." She never missed a birthday or graduation. In addition, Annie had so many friends. Her big heart, jokes and sense of humor will long be remembered.

Two years ago, Annie was diagnosed with a rare form of dementia. She was able to live at home over a year with family care before she moved to the Tanana Elder's residence. The family is grateful for all the love and care she was given there.

She is survived by her daughters, Charlene Duck (Chris Duck) and Amanda Vanderpool; son, Tyler Hyslop (Barbara George); brothers, Laverne Hyslop, Thomas Hyslop and Edward Charles Hyslop; cousin, Robert Demit; sister, Polly Hyslop; nephews and nieces, Kevin Burkett, Sherlyn Titus, Misty Riley, Nicholas Roberts, Harris Hyslop, Raymond Hyslop, Benjamin Schwartz, Darren Edwin, Krysta Workman, Krystal Workman, Travis Karshekoff and Jacob Isaac; her granddaughters, Zoey Erhart, Macy Stanley, Deion Erhart, Makenna Vanderpool, Brooklyn Folger, Brenna Folger, Scarlett Hyslop and Valarie Hyslop; her grandson, Desmond Hyslop; her great-granddaughter, Alaiah Linnear; and her god-daughter, Selena Sam.

Annie is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patti Hyslop; nephew, Timothy Dohan; and former husband, William Vanderpool.

The funeral service was held at the Episcopal Church on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, in Tanana, Alaska.
