Anthony J "Tony" Yensen

1960 - 2018

Anthony (Tony) J Yensen, 58, of Fairbanks, passed away Oct. 1, 2018, after a long battle of cancer. He was born Feb. 15, 1960, in Boise, Idaho, to Bonnie Lowry and James Yensen.
Tony graduated high school in Garden Valley, Idaho, and went on to play college football for two years in Garden Grove, Oregon. In the summer, during his high school years, he worked in Paxson. In 1980, he made Alaska his home. In 1986, he went to work in Livengood, running equipment in a gold mine until 2001. A few years later, he joined the Local 302 operating engineers and worked as a service oiler until 2017.
Tony enjoyed watching football, fishing, the great outdoors and traveling, especially to Australia. He could always be seen just wearing a T-shirt and his fedora at 40 below. Tony was a gentle giant with a big heart who helped so many people with no questions asked. Tony was a man of very little words, but you could tell he was kindhearted, honest and a hard worker.
Tony married the love of his life, Gina, in 2005. He loved his kids and loved watching his sons play hockey, as well as his daughter, who began playing hockey at an early age. He cherished every moment he spent with them.
Tony is survived by his wife, Gina; daughter, Abigail Yensen; and sons, Tyler and Justin Morales; mother, Bonnie Lowry; siblings, Lydia (Jerry) Callaway, Darcie (Perry) Bennett, Mistie (Andy) Lowry-Sims, Shawn (Kim)Lowry, Shane (Karen)Lowry and Don (Nora)Lowry; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, with a special thanks to Mike and Chris Steffey.
A celebration of life will be held from 1:30-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center, Building C, 3605 Cartwright Court, Fairbanks. A potluck will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fairbanks Cancer Treatment Center.
