Carl Jeglum Obituary
Carl Perkins Jeglum, born Dec. 8, 1935, in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, to Claire and Miriam Perkins Jeglum, died June 24, 2023, in College Place, Washington, after an extended journey with renal cancer.
Carl married Dorothy Esther Selch on June 13, 1957, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Carl and Dorothy lived in Alaska until Dorothy's passing from ALS, Dec. 2, 1992. After Dorothy's death, Carl married Constance Morris Monroe on Dec. 26, 1993 in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Carl graduated with a Bachelors of forestry science from Colorado A&M, now Colorado State University, in 1957. He enjoyed a fulfilling career in forestry, land and resource management throughout Alaska, his adopted home state.
He was always interested in learning new things, meeting people, and listening to their stories. Carl had many varied interests including the Elks Club, College Lions Club, Sons of Norway, Pioneers of Alaska, Vernon L. Nash Antique Auto Club, Fairbanks Curling Club, Society of American Foresters, and NARFE. Carl was an avid world traveler, pilot, river boater, game hunter, fisherman, and ham radio operator.
Three core attributes exhibited throughout his life were curiosity, energy (just try to keep up with him) and positivity. Carl could find a bright golden light in the darkest blue Alaskan winter night!
Carl was the patriarch of a close-knit family, he loved to spend time with them at one of the family's Alaska cabins, in the Arizona desert, or in the Washington wine country.
Carl is survived by his wife, Connie Jeglum; children, Andrea Lynne and Dennis Parrish of Anchorage, Alaska, Eric Carl and Corrie Jeglum of Boise, Idaho, Reid Nelson and Michele Jeglum of Spokane, Washington, and stepdaughter Sheri and Ed Vigil of St. George, Utah; eight grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, Jacob (Kacie) Parrish, Nina (Derek) Koehler, Johnny Jeglum, Leah Jeglum, and Olivia (Edward) Mills; step-grandchildren, Randall Kelly, Cody Smith and Ryan Vigil; great-grandchildren, Rogan and Bodhi Koehler, Elizabeth Parrish and baby Mills due in February 2024, which Carl was pleased to learn of in his last days with us; step-great-grandchildren, Kaden Kelley, Trandi Kelley, Teagun Kelly, and Pendleton Smith.
Carl was cremated in Walla Walla, Washington, and will be interred at Birch Hill Cemetery Pioneers urn garden in Fairbanks, Alaska, over the Labor Day holiday, the opening weekend of moose season. Memories can be shared with Connie Jeglum of College Place, Washington, or Andrea Parrish of Anchorage, Alaska.
Donations in Carl's memory can be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice, 1607 E. Issacs Ave., Walla Walla, WA 99362. Mark in memory of Carl P. Jeglum.
