Charles Vermilyea Obituary

Charles A. Vermilyea, 74, a 36-year resident of Fairbanks and formerly a resident of Hopewell Junction, New York, for 38 years, died peacefully at home on Monday, Oct. 13, 2025.
Charlie was born in Beacon, New York, on Sept. 23, 1951. He was the son of George F. Vermilyea and Kathleen V. Vermilyea.
In his youth, Charlie was a mechanic and an electrical apprentice for Vermilyea Electric. Charlie was a long-haul truck driver for C&H transportation for five years which was followed by 12 years working for Package Pavement of Stormville, New York, driving the Tri-State area of New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut. He would joke that he saw every state in the Lower 48 through the windshield of his truck.
Charlie moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1989 to drive the haul road. He later performed plumbing and heating services for R&S Mechanical and Portwine Plumbing and Heating. In between, he sojourned in fire system installation for King Fire and carpentry for Spaulding Custom Cabinets.
Charlie retired in 2014 and concentrated on remodeling the family's log home, sanding the logs inside and out to brighten the house, and created the perfect kitchen where he loved to cook family meals. Charlie installed a large deck off the back of the house and a greenhouse in the back yard where he spent many hours tending to his tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, and squash. He also took care of snow blowing for neighbors to ensure their driveways were safe and clear during the winter months. In the last few years, Charlie served on the Road Commission for the Snowball Subdivision area where he contributed many hours assisting neighbors with their requests for snow removal in the winter and drainage relief in the spring.
On Aug. 13, 1977, in Hopewell Junction, New York, Charlie married Kim M. Rizzi who survives at home.
He is also survived by his three brothers, G. Terrance from Oswego, New York, Patrick from Wilmington, North Carolina, and Michael from Fairhaven, Vermont; his two daughters, Theresa Morse of Hayden, Colorado, and Courtney Vermilyea of Fairbanks, Alaska; his four grandchildren, Matthew, Samantha, Devlin, and Kael; and his nieces and nephews, Jon, Daniel, Jessica, Christopher, and Amanda.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Chapel of Chimes, Legacy Funeral Homes, at 415 Illinois St., Fairbanks, Alaska. A viewing with prayer will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025.

Our children grew up together and shared many good years and memories! Courtney and Jaylene were "besties" all their lives. For many years Charlie was the best father figure my daughter had! Kim was like family and the family has my sympathy. He will be missed! Love and Healing! Tanya OBrien
