Christie Butler Obituary
Christie (Sandlin-Sargent) Butler, passed away on Sept. 18, 2025 at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital in Alaska, and is asleep, awaiting the return of Jesus Christ.
Born on May 30, 1955, to Hilah (Kay) Kathryn Ahr and Harvey Leroy Sargent, in Long Beach, California, Christie was the oldest of Connie (Sandlin) King and Russell Troy Sandlin. Kay married George Sandlin in December of 1961 and moved the family from California to Alaska, ending up in Delta Junction. Christie made her mark there; she worked many jobs in town, thrived academically, was Delta's first Miss Junior Miss and voted Miss Congeniality. She proudly worked one year as Engineering Secretary on the Alyeska pipeline at the Delta Camp.
Christie was driven and successful, and attributed those qualities to her love for and trust in God. She was a strong believer, always looking to give, and loved others fiercely, though her greatest joy was in sharing the love of God and his word! After completing a year at Anchorage Business College, she went on to Emporia, Kansas, and helped to open up the first year of The Way College of Emporia as coordinator of the college division. She devoted over 50 years of her life to The Way Ministry, serving in various positions, with a faithful and cheerful heart.
After the year 2000 Christie moved to the Seattle/Tacoma area and faithfully worked close to 20 years at the Lakewood Water District as Executive Assistant/Human Resources Officer. After retirement, she moved back to Delta Junction, Alaska, to be near her dad, George, and her brother, Russell. Her sister, Connie King and husband, Gary, would visit often from North Carolina.
She was so proud to be Aunt Christie to her four nephews, Matthew King (Abby), David King (Megan), Michael King (Victoria) and Troy Sandlin (Taylor); and niece, Amy Bonadies (Nate); along with all the great- nieces and nephews; Genesis (13), Georgia (11), Adelina (9), Bernadette (7), Noah (6), Silas (6), Elsie (4), Oliver (2), Isaac (1) and Peyton (8 months).
A private family ceremony will take place in the summer of 2026 and Christie will be laid to rest in Delta Junction, Alaska, at Rest Haven Cemetery, alongside her mother, Kay Sandlin.
