John Roger Williams

1949 - 2018

Former Fairbanks resident, John Roger Williams, loving husband and proud father, passed away Feb. 28, 2018, in Peachtree City, Georgia.
John was born in Pasadena, California, on June 25, 1949, to the late William J. and Ann Hunt Williams, their first son and the second of three children. He grew up in La Jolla, California, and graduated from La Jolla High School in 1968.
Following high school, John attended Mesa College in San Diego and then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was stationed at the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in San Diego.
John's early career was in aviation. He held positions of flight engineer, captain and first officer for numerous carriers in a variety of aircraft in California, Hawaii, Alaska and Georgia. Following his aviation career, he became a small business owner. In 1993, he opened the first Baskin-Robbins in Peachtree City in Braelinn Village. Then in 2004, he built, owned and operated the Georgian Park Car Wash in Kedron Village. In addition to being a small business owner, John worked for the FCBOE Transportation Department for 11 years, retiring in August 2017.
John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Phyllis Cashen Williams; his daughters, Laura Williams, of La Jolla, California, and Meghan Williams, of Atlanta, Georgia; his siblings, Sandra (Richard) Smith and Richard (Irene) Williams, of La Jolla; his nephews, Hunt (Sharifah) Smith, of Hong Kong, and Andrew (Sabrina) Williams, of Ogden, Utah; his niece, Alexa (Drew) Anderson, and son, Smith, of Englewood, Colorado; and his sister-in-law, Ellen Cashen, of Fairbanks.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to a charity of your choice.
