Fairbanks resident Lloyd "T-Bone" Orland Ystenes Jr., 61, passed away Feb. 9, 2010, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
Lloyd was born the son of Lloyd Sr. and Alberta (Flaw) Ystenes in Crookston, Minn., on Sept. 4, 1948. Lloyd was raised on the family farm and later worked as a meat cutter.
He met and married the princess of his life, Diane, in Minneapolis. Together, they had two children and moved to Fargo, N.D., Ulen and Twin Valley, Minn. Lloyd later became a long-distance truck driver, where he earned his nickname, T-Bone.
Wanting a change, he and two friends drove the Alcan in 1985 and came to Fairbanks. He continued driving for local companies such as Bloom, King and Becker. He still did some long-distance driving but hated being away from home. During the off-season, he drove a taxi.
Throughout his many years of driving, his wonderful sense of humor made him many friends, and after retiring, he enjoyed a leisurely life. He enjoyed fishing, carving diamond willow and watching NASCAR. His family and friends will miss him on so many different levels. Words cannot express how unforgettable he was.
His parents, Lloyd Sr. and Alberta, preceded Lloyd in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Diane; son, David; daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Robert Austin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara Hassel, Lenora Hanson, Linda and Roger Hagen, and Charlotte and Raymond Kraft; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 15, at Fairbanks Funeral Home.

To Kari and family, No words can make it better but know that so many lives were touched by this fun loving man that his memory will live on. Kari, the one thing I will never forget is that when you introduced me to your Dad so long ago, I was astounded at how much you laughed alike. Good times are sure to come and he will be there each time you laugh. Love, Mary Reece

Dianne, Kari, and Dave, our condolences go out to you, and Juniors friends and family. Junior's contagious laugh will always be a fond memory for us. Just as much as our boys loved hearing from "Santa Claus", Junior loved playing the role even more! The laughs and fond memories over the years will always bring a smile to our faces. Go Dale!!!

Dear Diane, David, and Kari,
I wanted to tell you that I
am thinking of you all and have been since I heard of your loss. I remember many good times together and those are the priceless. I will always remember Lloyd calling an emergency an emer-gen-cy pronouncing it just that way. Many fond memories and many good times. Love to you all and God Bless! Remember the trip to Alaska that Milo, Lloyd and Jim did. Now they are all on another journey together.

To the Ystenes Family, May each of you find comfort in knowing that God is "near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves." (Psalm 34;18) He has promised to soon "swallow up death forever...and wipe the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25;8) Take care,
