Lois Fried Obituary

Lois Irene Fried passed away Dec. 7, 2025, at the age of 85 at the Fairbanks Pioneer Home. Lois was a resident of the Pioneer Home for three years, where she made many friends and shared her feisty personality and quick wit with anyone who met her, most of all her dear friend and neighbor, Ginny.

Lois was born in Buckley, Washington, to Emil and Dorothy Godwin, with eight other brothers and sisters, all of whom passed before her. She met her love, Bill Fried, and they were married on April 9, 1960, in Spokane, Washington, and had two daughters, Diane and JoAnn.

A job opportunity for Bill had the family relocate to Alaska in 1970, and Fairbanks became their home. Lois worked for KTVF Channel 11 as a bookkeeper for more than 20 years.

Upon retirement, Lois and Bill took up winter residence in Casa Grande, Arizona. They enjoyed many winters there and made countless friends and memories. Lois continued enjoying her Casa Grande home for two years after Bill's passing, when she moved back to Fairbanks full-time.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Diane (Jim) Van Hoomissen and JoAnn (Bob) Tolman; grandchildren, Bradly (Stacie) Slimmen, David (Thanh) Van Hoomissen, Alexandra (Hunter) Riddle, Kristen (Alex) Windel, and Jamie (Ben) Russell; along with 11 great-grandchildren.

Lois' family would like to thank the Fairbanks Pioneer Home for their compassionate and loving care of our mother. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Fairbanks. Lois will be interred with her husband, Bill, in Spokane, Washington, in the spring of 2026.
