Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie, sister and friend went to be with the Lord on July 6, 2021. Caroline Louise Frank was born Nov. 6, 1949, in Fort Yukon, Alaska, to Hamel Frank and Mary Johnson Frank of Venetie, Alaska.
Louise was a talented sewer and beader, much like her mother Mary. Her beadwork was exquisite. She cared for people and loved her grandchildren very much, especially her great-granddaughter Shanata. She was kind and believed in K'eegwaadhat. She spent her life raising her family; being an older sibling she was always there checking in with them and was loved by all her brothers.
Louise was a fluent Gwich'in speaker and lived in Venetie most of her life. She remembered the elders and their way of life. She remembered and taught their stories and teachings. Louise was a beautiful person, filled with so much love. Throughout her life she worked as a translator, a wildland firefighter and a homemaker. She went to high school at Chemawa Indian School in the early 1960s.
Louise was adored by her father, Hamel. She was a "daddy's girl" and often got the first of everything among her siblings. She was the oldest daughter.
Louise is survived by her mother, Mary Johnson Frank; children, Gerald, Terry, Michael (Corrine) and Melinda (Peter) Frank; grandchildren, Raymond, Natasha, Nikeeta Frank and Jaden Paul; great-grandchild, Shanata Frank; siblings, Kenneth (Caroline), Jerry, Burns, Marky (Berenice), Ricky Frank and Connie Frank Henry; nieces and nephews, Benjamin, Samson, Crystal Dzehgak (Darryl), Tisheena Divi', Brandi, Charla, Sonya, Bernadine, Amanda, Corrine, Dustin, Gareth (Nicole), Kyle, Jonas, Elliot, Marky Jr, Jessie B. and Dorothy; great-nieces and -nephews, Marcus, Timothy, Syanna, Myrcediz, Rhiannon, Kali, Maliyah, Cody, Hamel, Trevon, Dalen, Gareth Jr., Gunner, Macayla, Roman, Cachaus; great-great-nephews and -nieces, Judify, Ruth and Lyla; cousin, Lawrence Roberts; grandma, Hannah Solomon; and numerous relatives from Arctic Village, Venetie and Fort Yukon.
