Louise Thompson Obituary

Louise Alice Thompson stepped quietly into eternity on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at the age of 110 in Fairbanks, Alaska. Louise was born in Orange, Virginia to James and Commora Spottswood on June 7, 1914.
Louise was well known in the Poughkeepsie, New York area for her culinary skills and catered for well-known families; the most notable being the Roosevelt family. One of the sons was known to visit Louise at her home to purchase her irresistible apple pies and may have been the son to give her the nickname "The Little Brown Chef."
Louise joined Ebenezer Baptist Church as a teenager, and was president of several choirs and also a Sunday school teacher. She was a volunteer at Catharine Street Community Center; where her daughter participated in several events over many years. She was loved by many in her church and the Dutchess County area; and was missed by countless when in 2001, at the age of 87, she relocated to Fairbanks, Alaska to be closer to her only daughter Diane, son-in-law Fennell, and grandson Robert.
At her insistence, Louise lived in MLH Manor senior housing apartments until the age of 107, then moved to live with her daughter and son-in-law. While a resident at MLH Manor, Louise started an exercise class, which later moved to the Fairbanks Senior Center. That exercise class is still ongoing. In Fairbanks, Louise was celebrated as the oldest female in the area for several years. In 2017, a UAF scholarship was awarded in her name to a deserving UAF student. Louise was a faithful member of True Victory Baptist Church where everyone looked forward to enjoying her chocolate cakes.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Diane L. Leavy; grandson, Robert Ellis Cave III (Susan); granddaughter, Arvetta Donalson-Henderson (Wanda); great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Louise was preceded in death by son-in-law, Fennell Leavy, husbands, James Andrew Green and Joseph H. Thompson Sr; sisters, Marie Douglas and Helen Dittmar; and granddaughter, Leslie Denys Cave.
A ceremony to celebrate Mother Louise A. Thompson's life will be held on Oct. 5, 2024 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 3030 Peger Road, Fairbanks, AK 99709. The viewing will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. Repass to follow Celebration of Life.
