Michael John Egan passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on Sept. 15, 2018, five days prior to his 70th birthday. He was born Sept. 20, 1948, to Edward and Dorothy Egan, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. His father, Edward Egan, was stationed at Ladd Air Force base in the 1950s, which brought the Egan clan to Alaska. Mike, along with his two older siblings, Kelly and Tom, graduated from Lathrop High School. In high school, he met Cheryl Marshall at the Arctic Bowling Alley and later married her on Dec. 13, 1970. Together, they had four daughters: Tina, Ginger, Julie and Amy.
He loved baseball and played in the American Legion as a catcher in his younger years. He made many friends playing cards at the Pastime Card Room. He was an avid reader, frequently reading multiple books at a time. Mike enjoyed keeping up with current events, weather and sports.
He will be remembered by his uncanny ability to make people laugh and his quick wit. Mike also had a sweet tooth unparalleled by any other. He loved coffee, doughnuts, home-baked goodies and See's candy. Mike had a varied career path, mostly as a member of the Teamsters Local 959. As a teenager, he worked at the Piggly Wiggly Market, the Riverboat Nenana and the Arctic Bowl. He also worked for Westcoast Groceries, FELEC Services, Odom Company and retired from Sourdough Fuel. After retirement, he delivered doughnuts for the Donut Shoppe, where he had free access to one of his favorite treats. He also cared for the family dogs that loved going for rides in his car, especially when local businesses gave the dogs treats in drive-thrus.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Dorothy Egan; brother, Thomas Egan; daughter, Tina Egan Wood; grandchildren, Jared, Joshua, Emily and Hannah Wood. He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Cheryl Egan; sister, Kelly Egan, and brother-in-law Peter Buckley; sister-in-law, Brenda Egan; daughters, Ginger Egan, Julie Parmenter and spouse Mike Parmenter, Amy Hanson and spouse Bobby Hanson; grandchildren, Moriah, Katlin, Ellie and Abbie Flynn, Hailey and Audrey Parmenter; and many nieces and nephews.

I feel like I have lost a Bother, I worked with Michael for about 12 years in Fairbanks, Alaska. The highlight of my work was knowing Michael would be there to tell his jokes and always make me laugh. This wonderful man did not have a mean bone in his body., Michael liked everyone and everyone liked Michael. I was fortunate to know the family, his beautiful wife Cheryl and their lovely girls. I pray for our Lord's mercy and comfort to all the family. Keep on laughing and telling those jokes Mike, the angels are lucky to have you.

My condolences to Cheryl and family. Mike and I worked together for ITT FELEC Services when FELEC was supporting the DEWline out of its Fairbanks facility. Mike was such a pleasure to work with, conscientious, with always a smile, a ready quip, or a pun. He took great pride in his family and spoke affectionally of them. I remember well his telling me about Cheryl's wonderful garden and how I just had to see it. Well, I did and it was every bit as grand as he said it was. Mike was a special person, and I am fortunate to have known him. Rest in peace, good friend.
