Michael (Mike) Richard Sexton, after a life filled with family, friends and much laughter, died on July 9, 2021. Mike was 77.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Mike was the son of Christopher and Margaret Sexton. From an early age Mike understood the value of family - and quickly learned he would need a sharp sense of humor to keep up with his eight siblings.
In 1971, Mike married Joanne Gorman Sexton and moved to Fairbanks, Alaska. Mike was a member of Local 375 and owned and operated his own business, Universal Mechanical, for 35 years. Thereafter, Mike served as the executive director of the Mechanical Contractors of Fairbanks.
Mike and Joanne were resolute in their commitment to a Catholic education for their children. Mike served on the school board and as a judge for HIPOW for many years.
When he wasn't working, Mike enjoyed playing golf, traveling to Hawaii and Arizona, and playing handball.
Mike was a modest person of great integrity, unshakable faith and fierce determination. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanne; his children, Matt Sexton, Katie (Mark) Weisenbeck and Molly (Kris) Gowan; his grandchildren, Haley and Ellie Weisenbeck; Thomas, Victoria and Annie Gowan; his sisters, Betty Burnham, Peggy (Dick) Stasson and Mary Jo (John) Knabe; his numerous nieces and nephews, and his extended family, the Sagers.
Funeral services and reception will be on Saturday, July 31, at 1 p.m. at Holy Family Chapel, 615 Monroe St., Fairbanks, Alaska.
