Robert James John

1974 - 2025

Robert James John went to be with the Lord on Dec. 28, 2025. He was born on June 29, 1974. His biological parents are Marlene (John) Derochers and Jimmy Erick, however he was raised by his maternal grandparents Sarah and Isaac John of Gwichyaa Zhee and they were his mom and dad.
Robert was a fun loving guy who loved to laugh and tease, but beneath all that was a huge heart for his family. Robert was very smart and accomplished; after completing high school, he went to AVTEC in Seward and got his accounting certificate, where he served as an accountant for various Alaska Native organizations throughout the years. He also worked in many different jobs in Gwichyaa Zhee, including the university and most recently the city, where he brought a positive outlook and laughter.
Robert loved to fish with his cousins and friends, taking trips down to the Gulkana River and also camping on the Tanana. Robert will be missed by his many family and friends, especially his best friend and cousin, Robert Flitt; his mother, Marlene Desrochers (Ray); sisters, Myra Kitty John (Ribbit), Maggie John, Jessica Black (Danny), Alberta Erick (Earl) and Louise Michael (Darren); brother, Peter John; his many nieces and nephews and extended family who he positively impacted, especially his great-nieces, Aubrianna and Aurora.
He had the unique ability to bring joy and laughter wherever he went with a distinct laugh and that was a true gift to everyone he encountered. While our hearts are broken, as a family we find solace that Robert is reunited with his parents; his sisters, Julie and Selina; and many loved ones in heaven. Services will be held in Fort Yukon, Alaska, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church with a burial and potlatch to follow.
