Robert C. Kent

Robert C. Kent, 60, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at his home in Fairbanks. He had just retired from the Laborers Local 942 and from Golden Valley Electrical Association six months ago. He leaves behind a daughter, Brittney Kent of Cle Elum, Wash., and her daughter, Paris. He also leaves behind three brothers and two sisters: Paul Kent and girlfriend, Anita Kettle of Connecticut; Mari Beth LaBrosse and husband, Daniel, of Fairbanks; Thomas Kent and wife, Denise, of Fairbanks; John Kent and wife, JoAnn, of Connecticut; and Carol Gustamachio and husband, Steve, of Connecticut.
He was born Feb. 16, 1952, in Hartford, Conn., to Robert and Elizabeth Kent. As the oldest of six children, he led the way with practical jokes and getting into trouble. He was known for his great sense of humor. He once lied to his English teacher in high school that he was sleeping in her class because he had to work to help support the family. He got away with it for a while until his mother, the PTA president, found out. Sleeping in class was no longer allowed.
He grew up in East Hartford, Conn., and graduated from Penney High School. Bob drove to Alaska in 1973 with Mark Malin and Mark Blessley to meet with Dwight Fenn and began work on the pipeline. He was generous with his time and money and would help anyone in need. After visiting his daughter and granddaughter in Seattle recently, he gave up his first-class seat to a soldier returning from Iraq. His kind spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
He loved taking his daughter, Brittney, along with his nieces and nephew camping, fishing, jet skiing at Harding Lake and barbecuing. His favorite pastime was attending baseball games with many friends and family joining in the fun. He especially loved the Boston Red Sox, Seattle Seahawks and the Alaska Goldpanners.
He leaves behind his best friends, Kenny Myers, Gary Stewart, Pat McArdle and Dwight Fenn.
The highlight of his life was the cherished memories of his beautiful granddaughter, Paris, who he bragged about to everyone.
A celebration of life will be held 6 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2012, at the Elk's Club.
