Ronald Charles Moore (Ron), 80, of North Pole passed away peacefully surrounded by friends on Sept. 16, 2025. Ron was born on July 6, 1945, in Richmond, California, to Truman and Jewell (Bracken) Moore.
Ron grew up near San Francisco and served in the US Army for three years, including nearly two years in Vietnam, where he served as a medic and earned a Purple Heart. In 1970, he married the love of his life, Glenda Anne Beishline.
Ron and Glenda moved to Alaska in 1972, where their open and generous hearts attracted many friends. Ron was always giving of his time, from caring devotedly for Glenda as she lived with multiple sclerosis, to finishing a roof for an injured friend, to helping to build his parish church, where he also regularly volunteered.
Ron worked as a nurses' aid for many years, and upon retirement he never stopped caring for people. After Glenda passed away in 2004, Ron continued to focus on helping those in need, both near and far away. He lived an ascetic life and gave generously of his time and money. Ron was known to regularly take in local strangers in need of food and housing for the winters, and was a devoted longtime supporter of an orphan center in Africa, where the children knew him on a first-name basis.
He loved animals, and in addition to regularly feeding the local ducks in the winters, and annually donating to a donkey rescue organization, he always had a dog or cat to keep him company at home over the years. His closest friends describe him as kindhearted and compassionate. He loved music and was well known to sing the loudest at church.
Ron was devoted to his faith and spent many hours a week in prayer and celebration with his church community, St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Fox. Ron also loved to read nonfiction human interest literature, and was always sharing insights from the books he was reading with anyone who stopped to talk with him.
Ron is survived by many family and friends who are blessed to have known him, including his two brothers, Lloyd and Tony Mason, and two godsons.
There will be a funeral for Ron at 10 a.m. on Nov. 15, 2025, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Fox. All are welcome. Please stay after the service for refreshments and share stories about Ron.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Zimkids Orphan Trust (
zimkids.com), Ron's favorite charity.
