Scott Bracy Obituary

Scott William Bracy

Scott William Bracy was born Nov. 30, 1965, in Nashville, Michigan. He graduated from Maple Valley High School in Nashville, Michigan. He attended Central Michigan College in Mount Pleasant and also attended Lake Superior State University in Sault St. Marie. He attained a dual bachelor degree in mathematics and computer science. He served in the U.S. Army during the late 1980s in the military intelligence branch.
He moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 2000 expecting adventure. He never quite got all the adventure he wanted but enough to keep him busy. After arriving he took a job driving a school bus, eventually becoming the driver for Route 13, the camera bus. He very quickly adopted the nickname "Scotty," which he loved. He was well liked by the children on his bus and his peers at both Laidlaw and later First Student. He loved driving the school bus and had a knack for relating to the children that rode his bus.
Soon after arriving in Fairbanks, he met his future wife, Alison Spees. It was their mutual love of animals, especially dogs, that quickly brought them together. He had an innate ability to connect with dogs and eventually one cat; Minser. Minser loved her daddy, curling up with him every night. Scott was very emotionally effected by her sudden death in 2015. Over the years Scotty had many dogs in his pack, at one point having 15 dogs; all indoor/outdoor, all deeply loved and cared for.
During the last year of Covid, life was especially difficult for Scotty. He lost his long time German shepherd Ariel who was 16 years old. In September he had to console Alison when her longtime Sheltie mix, Abi, passed away at 18 years old. Recently, our other German shepherd Becca died unexpectedly at the age of 10. At that point Scotty's pack/family had been reduced to four dogs, one cat and Alison. They were the most important people in his life.
Scotty exemplified the best character traits of the German shepherd breed; courage, loyalty, intelligence and a willingness to go to extreme lengths to protect his pack. On the 5th of March, a sudden and fierce fire erupted in the generator room of our house. As Scotty bravely fought this blaze, Alison and the four dogs - Frodo, Bobo, Bella and Gypsy - had time to escape. Scotty gave his life fighting that fire, protecting his pack, thus finishing his life's journey with all the courage and loyalty of a German shepherd, a breed he loved so much. Odin the cat was found a few days later with burnt whiskers, but overall well.
Scotty is survived by his current pack and wife in Alaska. He is also survived by many family members in Michigan. He is preceded through the rainbow bridge by our dogs, Pasha, Little Bark, Dixie, Quala, Sunshine, Kali, Brutus, Duchess, Ruufus, Willo, Blu, Buddy, Danny Boy, Murray, Nova, Ariel, Abi and Becca. Also across the rainbow bridge, our cats, Fuzzball, Spike, Angel, Rrrrascal, Rocky, Patchez, Minser, and Halo.

I wish I had gotten the chance to know him. I think my brother-in-law and I had many things in common.

One of the nicest guys I ever met. I am so sorry to learn of his passing, but he was the alpha of the pack and doing what he could to save them.
Alison, please let me know if there is any way I can help. I am so sorry you have to go through this. He will be sorely missed.

Scott always 'willing' to help a friend
has show in the manner he died
that he was a true Alaskan
.....;;;;...which has me thinking
Scott's walk down his road of life
showed at the very end of that road
his self sacrifice
revealed his true soul.
