Walter Peter Obituary

Walter Roger Peter was raised unto the Creator on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025.
He was born in Fort Yukon, Alaska, to Katherine and Stephen Peter Ch'igiioonta' in October 1949. He would smile and wave to us through the baby crib in the hospital and tell us, "Docdaii vihdlaa." He was brave and patient and kind in the face of illness and incapacity.
Above all Walter loved to dance. He jigged, and square danced, and varandii, and he two-stepped with all the ladies. Smiling and entertaining. But the next day he would get on his snow-go with his wood tobaggan to get a load of wood.
When Walter was a young man he hitch-hiked to New York City, and lost his shoes in Phoenix, Arizona, and flew home from Los Angeles, California.
That was some of Walter Peter Ch'igiioonta', brother, uncle, friend, and fellow traveler. Always asking how we were doing and wishing us well.
Walter will be laid to rest in Arctic Village, Alaska, during the summer of 2026 beside his mother, Katherine Joseph Senaaneeyo Peter.
A service and tea will be held in January 2026. Date to be announced.
Walter leaves behind his brothers and sisters, Bessie Ann Williams, Hannah Flaherty, Jean Proctor, Adeline Raboff, Steven Peter, Hishinlai' Peter, and Webster Mckee. He will be joining his mother and father; brothers Calvin and Paul; and all his friends and extended family in the great beyond of Vit'eegwiyaach'yaa's Magnificent Creation.
