Agatha Greenway Obituary
Agatha Nancy Overton Greenway, 86, formerly of East Andrews Avenue, Henderson, NC, died Saturday, February 28, 2004 in a local nursing home.
Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Sankey and Sally Stainback Overton. She was the widow of Garland Daniel Greenway.
Mrs. Greenway was a retired cosmotologist. She played and sang with the Mockingbird Combo, Country Cut-ups, and the Entertainers. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Christine Jenkins Sunday School Class, and was a former member of the choir and L&F Club.
Funeral services will be held Monday, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles M. Cook and the Rev. Gail Bruno. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy G. Stainback, and husband, Ronald, of Middleburg, NC; two sons, Garland D. Greenway, Jr., and wife, Libba, of Henderson, and Sammy N. Greenway, and wife, Lyn, of Raleigh, NC; a son-in-law, Clarence Ray Pegram, of Henderson; three sisters, Lorraine O. Blackley, of Franklinton, NC, Joyce O. Belcher, of Angier, NC, and Joann O. Wilkerson, of Roxboro, NC; nine grandchildren, Nancy Rose S. Lee, Ronald Ervin Stainback, Jr., Clarence Ray Pegram, Jr., Garland Daniel Greenway III, Rodney Gray Stainback, M. Todd Greenway, Jennifer P. Penick, Cameron G. Greenway, and Samuel Spencer Greenway; 13 great-grandchildren; and caregivers, Mary Hart, Ernestine Downey, and Annie Pegram.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ada Louise Greenway Pegram.
The family will receive friends Monday, from 1:00 to 1:50 p.m., in the parlor of First United Methodist Church. All other times, they will be at the home of Ronald and Nancy Stainback, 7561 US 1-158 Hwy one mile north of Middleburg.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ronald Ervin Stainback, Jr., Clarence Ray Pegram, Jr., Garland Daniel Greenway III, Rodney Gray Stainback, M. Todd Greenway, Cameron G. Greenway, and Samuel Spencer Greenway. The staff and residents of Whitmore Retirement Center, in Oxford, and the staff and residents of Britthaven of Henderson will serve as honoray pallbearers.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 114 Church Street, Henderson, NC 27536.
