Alvin Huff Obituary
July 5, 1920 - March 20, 2023
Chapel Hill, North Carolina - Alvin Huff, age 102, died peacefully, March 20, 2023, at his home. He was born in Middlesboro, KY, the youngest of five siblings. Alvin was a career Navy officer and a proud veteran of World War II. He retired from the Navy after 26 years. After obtaining his doctorate in education administration from UNC Chapel Hill, he worked as an administrator in the Durham Public School System, primarily principal of Oak Grove Elementary. A member of the Church of Christ, he was active in congregations wherever the family moved, including in Newport, RI, Paris, France, and Durham, NC. Mr. Huff was preceded in death by wife of 75 years, Margaret Huff; and daughter, Sharron Waggoner. Survivors include daughter, Judy Lucas; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Online condolences may be left at weatherfordmortuary.com.

I met Commander Alvin Huff and his Wife at the Central Church of Christ in Durham. He was a Great Brother, and I enjoyed hearing about his experiences from WW 2. He was a Naval Aviator who flew F4U Corsairs off the USS Princeton. He Served his Country, and he served his Lord, Jesus. A very intelligent man, and a man of Compassion. We all miss him at Church assemblies, and remember his words of wisdom. He was an Honor to know him. I know that he now is in the presence of the Lord with his Wife Margaret being in Paradise. RIP Brother Huff.

Dr. Huff was my principal from 1980-86, and I have such fond memories of this kind and caring man. He touched so many lives and will continue to live on in memories and hearts. I pray for comfort and peace for his family.
