Ann Davis Obituary

Ann Veazey Davis

December 2, 1934 - November 19, 2023

Zebulon, North Carolina - Ann Veazey Davis went to be with the Lord and her husband Wayne Davis on November 19, 2023. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Ann is survived by her two children, Mark Wayne Davis (wife Cindy) and MaryAnn Singleton (husband Jim); grandchildren Luella Shapiro (husband Walker), Lex Davis, Lindsey Ann Powell (husband Joe Anderson), Elisabeth Brawer (husband Hunter), and Mary Kate Powell (partner Carlee Wintermute); brother-in-law Donald Davis (wife Madora); sister-in-law Pat Davis; and many great grandchildren, step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ann was born on December 2, 1934, and adopted at five months of age by her parents Pattie Critcher Veazey and Lex Erving Veazey. She married Wayne L. Davis in 1950 and they spent 71 happy years together. After retirement, she and Wayne traveled extensively with their dear friends Barbara and Lovell Aills.

Ann, passionate about history and genealogy, wrote two books about the history of the Zebulon United Methodist Church, of which she was an active member. She spent years researching Veazey family history, publishing a book, The Descendants of John Veazey, in 1995. Her research began with cold calling Veazeys in the phone book on her and Wayne's travels and identified over 10,000 descendants. This led her to plan 16 national Veazey reunions that were attended by hundreds of Veazeys.

Visitation is Friday, November 24th at 10:15am at Zebulon United Methodist Church, followed by memorial service immediately at 11:00. Graveside service will be held at 10:30am on Monday, November 27th at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC.

My thanks to Ann Davis for being so supportive of Mary Ann being on the Zebulon High School cheerleading squad several years ago. Your devotion made the group of girls more a team and to feel supported! Ann was a loving mother noticed by all who knew her!!

Please accept my sincere condolences to the Veazey and Davis extended families. Ann and Wayne Davis were each fine and engaging conversationalists, and I enjoyed every meeting with them in their occasional visits to the North Country over the past 35 years. Ann was a wonderful person and she will be remembered fondly.
