Anthony Hayes Obituary

Anthony Michael Hayes

July 14, 1944 - November 23, 2025

Raleigh, North Carolina - Anthony Michael Hayes, age 81, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Born on July 14, 1944, Tony brought joy and kindness to all who knew him. He worked as a bagger and cart attendant at Kroger on Strickland Road in Raleigh, where his friendly demeanor and love for people made him a beloved presence.

Tony had a deep faith and attended North Ridge Bible Chapel for many years alongside his mother. His love for NC State sports was unwavering, and he found peace watching boats at Wrightsville Beach. He delighted in simple pleasures-cutting grass, enjoying meals at Bojangles, reading Archie comics and newspapers, and doing Word Searches. Above all, he cherished time with family, sharing laughter over countless stories that brought them closer together.

He is lovingly remembered by his sisters Marsha (Bill) Henthorn of Cary, NC, and Barbara Jo (Mike) Hightower of Wake Forest, NC; nieces and nephews Kim Hailey of Cary, NC; Tulio (Cristina) Pacheco of Raleigh, NC; Jennifer (Salem) Shubash of Washington, DC; Joel (Lindsay) Mosca of Raleigh, NC; Aaron (Ashleigh) Mosca of Raleigh, NC; and Rachel (Eric) Howland of Wake Forest, NC. Tony also leaves behind 13 grandnieces and grandnephews and many cousins from coast to coast. A special thanks goes to Nick Uram-his best buddy and cousin-for bringing laughter and levity during Tony's final hospital stay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit Hayes (1983) and June Hayes Dennis (2016).

A memorial and graveside service will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.

Tony often called himself "the happiest man alive," and those who met him would agree. Although Tony is not physically with us, we are reassured that Tony is in Heaven with his beloved family and friends, and is now pain-free and with a perfect mind and body (Philippians 3:20-21).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The ARC of North Carolina (353 East Six Forks Road, Suite 300, Raleigh, NC ) or at http://www.arcnc.org/support-the-arc/make-a-donation.

Rest in peace, dear brother.

We were fortunate to be on Tony´s daily walks. We miss sweet Tony walking by our house. He always stopped to talk if we were outside. He was always very engaging and interested in what we were doing. His smile was contagious. He was a happy gentle soul. Tony is now in Heaven and will be sorely missed.

We are so sorry. Tony was such a good person and everyone in the neighborhood knew him and liked him so much. Marsha and Bill were incredible and did everything in their power to give him such a happy life.

Tony was always such a delight to be around. He always knew your name even though he would ask you if that was right. He enjoyed talking about Wolfpack sports. My wife and I recently met him while dining in Raleigh and he still remembered me. I am glad to have known him. May he rest in peace.
