Betsy Homewood Obituary
July 31, 1956 - February 5, 2025
Littleton, North Carolina - Betsy Tom Lawrence Homewood succumbed to stomach cancer, which she bravely fought for 10 ½ years, on February 5, 2025. She is preceded in death by her father, Samuel Sholes Homewood and her mother, Betsy Tom Lawrence Homewood.
She is survived by her son, Stephen Halsey Conger III, her brother, Samuel Sholes Homewood, Jr, (Lyn), her nephews, Samuel Sholes Homewood, III (Hallie), Hillman Collins Homewood (Laura), great niece, Amelia Ann Homewood, and great nephews, Hillman Collins Homewood, Jr., Finley Lawrence Homewood, and Beau Newcomb Homewood.
She graduated from St. Mary's High School and Junior College, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Appalachian State University, and Old Dominion University. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity at UNC. She taught for many years at Halifax Community College in Weldon, NC, where she made many, many friends. Because of her father's textile career, she lived in many places, but Clarksville, VA, was her "happy place". She lived out the remainder of her life there.
She was active member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Littleton, NC and St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Clarksville. She loved cooking, gardening, and her pets, especially her Great Pyrenees, Jack and Jill. The family can't express enough of their love and appreciation to Paige Ward, her long time friend, who was by her side during her fight against cancer.
The service will be held at St. Timothy's on Tuesday, February 11th at 2:00 p.m., with celebration of her life following the service. Burial will be held at St. Alban's Episcopal Church at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make gifts to the Haig/Homewood scholarship at St. Mary's School, 900 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, NC 27603, Prestwould Foundation, PO Box 872, Clarksville, VA 23327, or your charity of choice.
