Betsy McClain Obituary

Betsy Tingley McClain passed away on January 11, 2010 at Stewart Health Center. She was born on June 7, 1919 in Akron, Ohio. Shortly thereafter her family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. She attended schools in Charlotte and graduated from Queens College.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, where she dedicated many years as a volunteer of the Altar Guild, and was a charter member of Rex Hospital Auxillary. She enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her three children, Richard Marvin McClain, Jr., of Charlotte, Lutie McClain Rayhart and husband Thomas of Annapolis, MD, and James Ross McClain and wife Johnnie of Spartanburg, SC; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and devoted nephew John N. McClain and wife Frances of Raleigh, NC. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard Marvin McClain, who was formerly Senior Vice President of First Citizens Bank, who died in 1992.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful and caring doctors, nurses, and the entire staff at Springmoor for all their love, compassion and devotion in caring for our mother for so many years.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 2 PM at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, NC 27608. A private burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betsy’s memory can be made to The Holy Michael Foundation, c/o St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.
