Raleigh, North Carolina - Betty G Brooks of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, at Waltonwood Lake Boone, still filled with the warmth and sprit that defined her beautiful life.

Born on June 8, 1931, in Simpsonville, South Carolina, to Sims and Nevada Gault, Betty (also known as "Jane" to those closest to her) grew up in a large and lively family. She carried the compassion and caring of her 7 brothers and sisters with her always.

A proud graduate of Furman University, she brought her intelligence and endless patience to several generations of children as an elementary school teacher-first at St. Timothy's School in Raleigh and later with Wake County Public Schools at Lynn Road Elementary teaching gifted and talented children. Even after retirement, her classroom grew: she joyfully taught Sunday school and led countless Bible Study Fellowship courses, sharing the faith that was part of everything she did. Betty also took great pride in educating her two grandchildren Nathaniel and Sarah who were her most cherished students. Class was always in session during visits with "Mema", a title she wore with great pride.

Betty was the treasured wife of Dr. Wayne Brooks for 43 years until his passing. Together they built a home filled with "dad humor", kindness, and strong devotion to family.

She is survived by the three children: Stephen Brooks and wife Valda of Raleigh, Cheryl Brooks of Raleigh, and Rebecca Brooks of Charlotte. She also leaves behind a niece Kathy, and nephews Gordon and Douglas, along with many others whose lives she brightened simply by being "Jane". Her sweet disposition, and gentle touch left an impression on everyone she met. Betty lived a life that made the world softer and kinder for all who knew her, and she will be profoundly missed.

The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff of Waltonwood Lake Boone and by her physician Dr Jeffrey Huang, whose kindness and guidance allowed her to stay active and healthy well into her final days.

A private family service and interment was held at Raleigh Memorial Park in Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 6339 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC, where Betty Jane's faith and friendship blessed so many.
