Betty McKinne Obituary

Betty Chauvin Hochenedel McKinne, formerly of Louisburg, North Carolina, died in Sonoma, California on June 28, 2010.
She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on August 31, 1920 to artist Jane Elizabeth Chauvin Hochenedel and sugar chemist Benjamin Franklin Hochenedel Jr. Her father died in 1924 and in 1928 her mother married William Elliott Jones of Houma, Louisiana, where Betty grew up.
She majored in ceramics at Newcomb College in New Orleans. Shortly after graduating in 1941, Betty began teaching art and art history at St. Mary’s in Raleigh, where she met her future husband, Collin McKinne. After the war they made their life in Collin’s hometown of Louisburg, N.C.
An artist in every sense of the word, Betty taught others to see the beauty she saw everywhere.
She is survived by one sister, Mabel Hochenedel Allen of Louisburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane McKinne-Mayer and Bill Mayer of Berkeley, California, and Elizabeth McKinne and David Graves of Napa, California; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins ranging over four generations.
Funeral services will be held in Louisburg on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 305 Church Street, with the committal of ashes immediately following at Oakwood Cemetery, Louisburg.

I'm so sorry to hear that this kind and loving lady has passed on. I'll never forget her. She taught me how to knit and love kitties and appreciate all of nature! I wish I had taken the time to visit her more often when she was in Louisburg. I'll never forget a special card that she sent. In it she wrote that the artwork was a sketch of Aunt Becky's house that she had made one cold winter afternoon while sitting in her car. A special card from a special lady. I will cherish memories of her and never forget her infectious smile.
