Dearest Emily, Betsy, and family, my heart is filled with mixed emotions of loss and joy. I have such wonderful memories of my cousin Don from the day he was born. He came into my life then with a smile that seemed never to end. I loved visiting with you in "Fuquay-Springs" on those Sunday's Mother (lovingly known by you as Aunt Madie), Daddy and I would drive over from Raleigh to visit, and I got to play with you and Don. He was so sweet always, even when he got into trouble for some mischievous fun he created! He could make us laugh and feel good so easily. And if he got a cut or scrape, Aunt Wiila would slather his injury with "Mercurochrome" that turned purple as I remember, and Don would eventually look almost polka-dotted with dabs of purple on his precious little arms and legs...but it never seemed to bother him because of his humor and big smiles. As he grew into adulthood, and entered college, I realized he had a real connection with Jesus. His smile reflected his relationship with the Lord. And when he was diagnosed with MS, Don's smile never stopped. He witnessed his Christianity and joy to everyone he saw. And the more MS took over his life, the more he revealed the Holy Spirit living in him. He was also much more interested in what was going on in the lives of others than talking about himself. The joy of the Trinity in his body, mind, and spirit was so real because it was so much a part of him...who he really was...a loving and beautiful child of God. And he wanted all of us in his life, to know that they were too. We Daughters of the King at my church in Gainesville, Ga, have prayed for Don for years. He will be so missed, and at the same time so Gloriously remembered for the special person he was in the lives of so many countless people. He truly made a difference in God's world. And I feel so blessed God brought him into my life. I will always love my Cousin Don with all my heart. And my husband Tom joins me in these feelings. We wish we could be there with you, and for Don's service, but family and Christmas arrangements in Williamsburg where they live, have made the trip not possible. My prayers are now for each of you family members that peace and strength will fill you, and you will be blanketed with so many blessings of joy and memories of your brother and friend...Don, knowing that he is an angel smiling in Heaven now, and his body is whole again at last.
Love+,
Cousin Alice Ann
