Boyd Combs Obituary

Mr. Boyd "Dick" Combs, 82, died Friday at Heartland Living and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro, NC.
Mr. Combs was born in Bristol, TN, the son of the late Anna Ruth Meade and Arthur Randolph Combs. He is also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Combs served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Goodrich Destroyer in the South Pacific, where he earned the Purple Heart. After the war, he attended Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, VA where he was Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. After graduation, he went to work for General Electric Company and retired after 35 years as Director of Personnel and Public Relations.
Mr. Combs was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He adored his family and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was devoted to the Duke Heart Center where he served as a volunteer for many years, offering strength and humor to a multitude of heart patients.
Mr. Combs is survived by his wife, Ruby Elizabeth Combs; two daughters, Debbie Lynn Combs-Jones of Durham, and Janet Lee Combs Cameron and husband, Kenneth K. of Sanford; son, Daniel Meade Combs and wife, Rachael Nicely of Greensboro; and eight grandchildren, Erin Marie Jones, Shannon Marie Jones, Whitney Blaire Cameron, Kenleigh Danielle Cameron, Daniel Boyd Combs, Kayla Elizabeth Combs, Ashley Renee Combs and Adam Meade Combs.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with the Rev. Bob Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Green United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.

The family wishes to thank all the wonderful people at Moses Cone Palliative Care Unit and Heartland Living and Rehabilitation in Greensboro, NC for their kindness and compassion. Their care helped ease the pain and sorrow during this difficult time for the family.
