Carlton was a great man. I loved to listen to his stories. He would always welcome you when you walked into the salvage yard. Not too long ago, you could tell he loved delivering parts, he'd get calls wondering why he won't back yet, I'll be there shortly he'd say. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Its hard for me to the think of this mortal world without Carlton in it. I cannot remember a time of not knowing him, his family, and the Salvage Yard family. Although we did not share blood relations, our families were so entwined together through the years, we were family, and will forever be. He will live in our hearts and consciences till our time here ends, and we meet again on the Golden Shore. Until then we close our eyes and we see him. We listen and we hear him. I don't remember a time I didn't know Mr. Carlton, he and my Dad were good friends, along with my Uncle Charlie. I spent many weekends with Carlton and Keith at the track with my Dad. As someone else said he was a pillar of the community and will be greatly missed.

Our first car, a Opel Kadett stationwagon needed overhauling, and sure enough, Carlton had an engine we could use...How many people had the means to drive to work because Carlton Manning had surplus vehicles? Mr. Carlton was one of the nicest and friendliest men I have ever known. He was an astute businessman and at the forefront of automobile recycling in North Carolina.
