Carolyn Elizabeth Blalock Hemingway

October 1, 1936 - December 15, 2023

Wilmington, North Carolina - Carolyn Elizabeth Blalock Hemingway, 87, of Wilmington, NC, passed away December 15, 2023. She was born October 1, 1936, in Winston Salem, NC, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Quay Lyle Blalock.

She graduated from RJ Reynolds High School and eventually Salem College, both in Winston Salem. Carolyn married George Capers Hemingway and built a family of 3 children. They moved to Tarboro to begin George's medical practice. Carolyn was involved in many community activities- she was an active member of Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, Tarboro Liberal Arts Club, Tarboro Investment Club, and numerous bridge clubs. She also served as a member of the Edgecombe County School Board.

She is survived by her children, Mr. and Mrs. John Gilliam Wood IV, Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Caswell Baker, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. George Capers Hemingway, III; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. John Gilliam Wood V, George Christian Wood, Elizabeth Flowers Baker, Carolyn Westbrook Baker, George Capers Hemingway IV, Samuel Faxon Hemingway, and David Parker Hemingway; and great-grandchild, John Gilliam Wood VI.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church, Tarboro, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church https://www.howardmemorial.org/donationpledge-giving.
