Charles Ray Pugh, age 86, of Boone passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Watauga Medical Center.

Dr. Pugh was born June 12, 1929, the oldest son of V.R. and Flora Pugh.

Dr. Pugh was a native of Randolph County. He received BS and MS degrees from NC State University before earning his PhD from Purdue University. He retired from the North Carolina State University Extension Service after 30 years of service.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Pugh is preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years Ruth Beeson Pugh and grandson, Keith Marsh.

He is survived by his wife Claudeen Edmisten, brothers Raeford, Bob, Donald and Claud Pugh, daughters Barbara Marsh, Joyce Morgan, and Susan Hash, son David Pugh, two stepdaughters Claudia Eades and Julie Lawler, six grandchildren, six step grandchildren, one great-grandchild and four step great-grandchildren.

Charles enjoyed bluegrass music, genealogy, golf, supporting his favorite team, the NC State Wolfpack, and spending time with family.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 27, 2016 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Bethel Friends Meeting, 2519 Bethel Friends Rd., Asheboro. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at Bethel Friends Meeting with Rev. Darrin Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Friends Meeting or NC State Agricultural Foundation, Campus Box 7645, NC State University, Raleigh, NC 27695.
