Christopher Yellig Obituary

Christopher White Yellig

July 12, 1987 - December 30, 2017

Raleigh

Christopher White Yellig, son of Sylvia White and Ned Yellig, brother of John Yellig (Laura), died suddenly at home of an accidental drug overdose.

He was a loving, affectionate, caring, open-hearted young man who loved his family beyond measure. Free from prejudice, he made friends easily from all walks of life. He enjoyed volunteering at the Round Table Fellowship of Pullen Church which provides a twice weekly afternoon meal and social hour for homeless men and women. To know him was to love him.

Affectionately called "Critter," from the time he could walk Christopher loved to find bugs, snakes, frogs, and birds. Over the years he maintained menageries of dogs, a cat, fish tanks, snakes, and lizards.

He had wide-ranging interests including gardening with his dad, Russian history and language as well as nature programs on TV. Christopher was conversant in Spanish, venturing twice to Salamanca, Spain to study. A graduate of Broughton High School, he lettered in lacrosse, track, and cross country, and later, earning a B.S. from NC State in psychology, he dreamed of becoming a therapist to help people with mental illness.

A memorial service will be held for friends and family of Christopher later in the spring. The family especially wishes to thank Dr. Michael Lancaster for his wise, enduring, and loving support of Christopher as he struggled with depression throughout the years.

Sylvia and Ned, all of my prayers and thoughts are with you this morning. This is truly tragic and hard to accept. Chris was a spirit of joy and love. Every memory I have of him involves laughter and joy. Despite his emotional struggles, he always made it a point to make others around him feel good. As I recall, he always had a calling to give back, and actively served his communty. Depression and anxiety are real. So many people we love suffer with it in silence. These people are true warriors and my heart breaks for those who cant seem to find a way to cope. Chris could not have been more adored by his friends and family. We will see him again one day soon. Rest In Peace, sweet Chris.
