Daniel Macchia Memoriam

In Loving Memory
September 18, 1972 - May 5, 2010
Our thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts, memories and prayers for our son Daniel. The words of his academic advisor at NC State touched our hearts.
“It was my deep professional and personal pleasure to be the academic adviser for Daniel Macchia when he was enrolled in the Master of Education degree program in Special Education at North Carolina State University. He was an extraordinarily intelligent man who relished learning and always elevated any discussion to a high level. He saw the world through a different perspective and had the power to articulate his ideas in a manner that altered everyone else's thinking in every class in which he was enrolled where I was the instructor. Dan possessed a finely tuned, quick, and often outrageous wit and I loved talking to him about a wide variety of topics and subjects. Through these discussions, I came to know how deeply he loved every member of his family and especially, his nephew, Dominic. I consider it an honor to have known Daniel’s mind, heart and spirit. He was a marvelous teacher who took as much pride and joy in his own students as I took in him. I am a better teacher and person because of him. Such beings are irreplaceable in our lives.”

I remember Daniel from our graduate school classes at NC State. He always voiced his opinions and stood up for what he believed in. Daniel was brilliant, kind, and he had t"the gift "of working with students with disabilities. I feel honored to have known him. I know his students will carry on his teachings,, and I hope his love will help you all get through this devastating loss. My true condolences...
