David Corl

1949 - 2025

David Eugene Corl, born February 14, 1949, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, passed away on December 12, 2025. A lifelong Carolinian at heart, David's life was marked by curiosity, creativity, and an enduring entrepreneurial spirit that took him across the country before ultimately bringing him home.



David lived at various times in Savannah, Georgia; Scottsdale, Arizona; Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and Hollywood, California-each place reflecting a chapter of exploration and reinvention. In his professional life, David embraced opportunity wherever he found it. Early on, he worked briefly in the fabric industry, gaining an appreciation for craft and design. In Chapel Hill, he became a familiar face as the owner of a cookie store in the local mall, where his warmth and humor were as much a draw as the treats themselves.



Never one to stay still, David went on to found FotoFolks, a cutout picture company that combined novelty, creativity, and his knack for engaging people. In his later years, he turned his energy toward food and hospitality, running a catering business in Charlotte, before working with the Players' Retreat in Raleigh, where he was valued for both his reliability and his easygoing presence.



David spent his final years in Raleigh, NC. He will be remembered for his independent spirit, his willingness to try something new, and the many connections he made along the way. His life was not defined by a single profession or place, but by a steady openness to experience and people-qualities that left a lasting impression on all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held at 1pm at Players' Retreat in Raleigh, NC on February 14, David's birthday.
