I knew David in high school, and have a great memory of traveling to Washington, DC with him during our school's 'open curriculum' in our senior year.

We spent 5 days roaming the halls of the Senate Office building and the Rayburn House building, and were able to meet a number of senators and representatives. The highlight of the trip was meeting Senator George McGovern, who graciously approached us and introduced himself.

I'm happy I had that time with David, and many others.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. I was a year ahead of him at Ravenscroft and Clemson, and so sorry not to have stayed in touch. Prayers going up for you all, especially Alex and Shannon.

I am heartbroken to hear of Dave's passing. A beloved fraternity brother from our days at Clemson. He will be missed by all who knew him.

So sorry to see this. Dave and I crossed paths through Akron Rotary, The University of Akron and some other common interests. We always stopped to chat when we happened into the same restaurant or event. He'll be missed by many.

I was deeply saddened to learn late yesterday of David's death. We were Pi Kappa Alpha pledge brothers at Clemson and I have so many memories of great times shared during our years at Clemson. Unfortunately our paths diverged after graduation when I went into the Air Force, and I didn't see David again until August 2016 at a fraternity reunion back at Clemson. I am so thankful to have had some time to chat with him and catch up during those too few days then. David was a true gentleman with a witty sense of humor, a great mind, and a big heart. He will be dearly missed. Rest well my brother.
Alexander and Shannon, he spoke very proudly of you both when we reconnected two years ago and he loved you very much. I know your father's passing leaves a gaping hole in your lives, but he will continue to live on in your hearts with memories of all those times you spent together. I pray that you find comfort and peace during your time of grieving.

I only knew David from our years together WAY long ago at Ravenscroft. I just want to say that I found great sorrow, yet great joy in reading David's obituary. The family member or members who obviously put their heart and soul into the words describing David's life "after Ravenscroft" truly created a labor of love reflecting a life well lived. Thank you for sharing that bit of David's life with a larger audience.

Words of comfort often ring hollow - especially from someone who has not had any contact with David since Ravenscroft. Reading about how David lived his life, I wish we had connected, for I share his love of life, of travel, of family and of faith.

May the family find some real and lasting joyous memories once death's sting recedes. And as for death's sting, I do not know whether David loved nature as much as I do, but I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes about "the circle of life" - and may the joyous knowledge of the life hereafter also comfort you all!

Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life. ~John Muir

David & I were contemporaries and friends at Clemson and a few years ago reconnected under Cricket Yates Stewart's tent in the monsoon that was the Clemson/Notre Dame football game. He was as joyful then as he was 35 years ago, and Cricket has the picture to prove it. He is missed, and condolences and prayers go out and up for his family.
