Donald Proctor Obituary

Donald Kelvin Proctor, 60, recently of Chapel Hill, died Saturday, September 6, 2008 at UNC Hospitals after a brief and courageous struggle with cancer.
He was born in Lincolnton, and lived most of his life there. Mr. Proctor was a 1966 graduate of Lincolnton High School and attended East Carolina University and UNC Charlotte.
Mr. Proctor was the beloved son and brother of Geneva Painter Proctor of Lincolnton and Rita K. Proctor of Chapel Hill.
He is preceded in death by his dad A.R. "Smack" Proctor, former sports editor for the Lincoln Times-News.
Mr. Proctor touched the lives of many people and he will be fondly remembered as a gentle and compassionate soul. He was an inspiration to his family and many friends as he worked so diligently and courageously to recover from a disabling neurotoxicity acquired in December 2005. In spite of his many challenges he maintained a brilliant intelligence, positive attitude, quick wit, and love of life. His special passions were all things of the Carolina blue hue, the Beatles, and Kurt Vonnegut. He was a gifted writer and a master of words.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Boger City United Methodist Church, in Lincolnton followed by a family visitation. His body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Chapel Hill.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Boger City United Methodist Church, 2320 East Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092; University United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 728, Chapel Hill, NC 27514 or the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Warlick Funeral Home of Lincolnton is serving the Proctor family.
