Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Friday, September 16, 2022 at Lea Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Poole Road, Raleigh, NC.
Visitation: 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM, preceding the funeral service at the chapel.
Entombment: Carolina Biblical Gardens, Garner, NC.
Preceded in death by her parents, Irene & James Elliott and her brother, Mark G. Elliott.
Survivors: Sons, Reginald G. Badgett of Raleigh, NC, Steven L. Smith of Garner, NC and Thomas C. Smith (Denise) of VA; Daughters, Rebecca S. Foster, April R. Smith, both of Garner, NC, Sarah Smith-Ruiz of Raleigh, NC and Callie E. Smith of Garner, NC; Siblings, Jimmy Badgett (Bertha), Brenda K. Badgett, Larry Badgett, all of Raleigh, NC, James R. Elliott (Dianne) of Garner, NC, Dwight R. Elliott (Bertha) of Raleigh, NC, Gail Elliott, Gary Elliott of Cary, NC.

This year, 2025, Habitat for Humanity Wake County will be celebrating its 40th anniversary and I just found out about Dorothy going home to be with our Lord. I met this wonderful woman when I re-designed a house plan to accommodate, Dorothy, Leon, and six of their children. She sure changed the trajectory of my life with one word...closets. Miss you, Dorothy. I was hoping to see you at the November celebration, but I know you will be with us in spirit.

Just heard of Dorothy's passing. Dorothy was pure joy. Dorothy was one of the first Habitat Wake homebuyers. Her home was sponsored by Edenton Street United Methodist Church. She loved to tell the story of her home and its impact on her family. She told her story countless times to churches and Habitat audiences and put Habitat Wake on the map. Your joy will be missed, but your legacy lives on in one of the most fruitful Habitat affiliates in the country thanks to you.
