Earl Needham Obituary

Earl F. Needham, 87, of Cary, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at his residence. He was born January 21, 1922 in Pliney, West Virginia to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Needham.
A graveside military service will be held on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 2 pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham, NC.
Earl was a 23 year veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He also served tours of duty in Germany, Japan, Korea, Burma and Vietnam. He was a Green Beret with the Special Forces at the time of his retirement. He wore the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Parachutist Badge. He was a Bronze and Silver Star recipient as well as the Purple Heart.
Earl was preceded in death by a son, Earl F. Needham, Jr. and a wife, Emmabelle Murphy Needham.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Blake and husband, John of Chadbourn, NC; daughter, Carol Harvell and husband Clifton of Chocowinity, NC; daughter, Patti Valero of Tampa, FL. He had 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163.

Kathy and family, the loss of a close family member is never easy. It is wonderful that you and your family have such good memories and have each other. Be strong. You never forget but it does get easier. Just know that your father is now surrounded by others who love him.
