Edwin Dillon Obituary

Edwin Eugene Dillon

August 24, 1964 - December 5, 2015

Winston-Salem

Ted Dillon, 51, loving brother, father, husband and son died of natural causes on December 5th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia while on assignment for FAL Aviation. He was a professional pilot who truly loved his work and his colleagues in the field. He had spent years circling the globe with sheik Fahad and experiencing storybook adventures. It was his good fortune to be able to utilize his passion for flying in a satisfying career. However, the greatest achievement of his life was that he was an exemplary father and husband. In constant communication with his family at home, from all points on the globe, Ted shared his zeal for life and even helped with homework. Warm-hearted and good-natured, Ted drew the attention of audiences of all ages and especially the affections of his own children and their cousins. He cherished his time on furlough when he was able to attend the kids' athletic events and take the family on spontaneous trips. For Ted, Family Camp at Windy Gap was as important an event as a trip down the Amazon River or a Royal wedding.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Joseph Dillon, parents in-law, Fred and Betty Vinson and a brother, Timothy Patrick Dillon, but is survived by Tim's widow, Suzanne Via Dillon.

He is survived by his mother, Martha Joan Weisner Dillon, his wife, Joycelyn Vinson Dillon, sons, Thomas and Charles, and daughters, Sarah Frances and Virginia Dillon. He is also survived by a twin sister, Amy Dillon Hough & her husband, Michael and three older siblings, Dinah Dillon Bland & her husband Jack, Mandy Dillon DeGrazia & her husband, Iano, and John Joseph Dillon, jr., brothers-in-law, Tom Vinson and his family and Britt Vinson and his family, sister-in-law, Jane Ashley and her husband, Stan Durham, and their family. As well as 19 nieces and nephews that adored him, one grandniece and one grandnephew.

A memorial service was held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem on Saturday, Dec. 19. Memorials may be made to: Ted Dillon's Children Memorial Fund (TDCMF), in care of Wells Fargo Bank.
