Staley, North Carolina - Ellyn Marie Gardner Courts was born May 11, 1934, in Gibson, NC. She passed away April 3, 2025, at the home, surrounded by her family.

Ellyn graduated from Gibson High School and went on to get her BS in Pharmacy at UNC Chapel Hill in 1957.

Ellyn met Ben Courts in a chemistry lab while both were in the School of Pharmacy at UNC Chapel Hill. They were happily married for 55 years. They bought Eubanks Drug Store in Chapel Hill in 1964 and named it Courts Drug Store which was open for 14 years. She was very dedicated to her customers and would go over and beyond to help people in their time of need. She was a relief pharmacist at Kerr Drug and filled in at other drug stores until she retired in 1992.

She is survived by her two children, Mary Beth Courts Montgomery of Staley, NC, Kathy Courts of Staley, NC, 2 grandchildren, Erin Haines of Staley, NC, Ben Courts and wife Juvy of Raleigh, NC and 2 great grandchildren Blake and Grey Courts.

Ellyn was the sweetest, kindest person you could ever meet. She was very loving and never had anything bad to say about anyone. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was a die-hard UNC fan. She was always helping people. She was a member of the University Presbyterian church for many years and did volunteer work at the church office. She enjoyed visiting shut ins and making sure they were comfortable and had everything they needed. She loved gardening, flowers, and had a great sense of humor. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word which always made everyone feel loved.

From the family to our beloved Ellyn Marie Gardner Courts: you have blessed this family with so much love and wonderful memories. We love you and miss you dearly. "You are perfect in our eyes." Rest in peace Mom.

We want to express our utmost love and gratitude to Wendy Dunn. She has joined our family with her love and care for Mom and all of us. She has been a true blessing, a wonderful addition to our family, and we are eternally grateful.

Thank you, Misty for taking such good care of Mom when she was in Asheboro. We are very appreciative.

The family is wearing UNC tarheel shirts in Mom's memory. Feel free to do the same or a light blue shirt would suffice.

The service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the University Presbyterian church on 209 E Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC. The burial will follow the service at the Old Chapel Hill cemetery.
