Eric Kaplan, 62, died Sunday, February 1, 2015 at his home in Cary, NC.
Eric was born on March 20, 1952 in Washington, D.C. to Morton and the late Miriam Kaplan. He was raised in Rockville, Maryland, was a graduate of Robert E. Peary High School and then received his B.S. in psychology at the University of Maryland.
Throughout his career in the car business, Eric worked for Chrysler in D.C. and Houston and then various car dealerships in the D.C. area before relocating to NC. Since 1999, he has enjoyed working for the Crossroads Cars group at their Ford dealerships in Cary, Wake Forest and Sanford.
Eric is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Patricia Kaplan; and his two daughters, Shelby Pushchak and her husband Evan of Raleigh, and Jessica D'Ascanio and her husband Nicholas of Marathon, FL. He also leaves behind his father, Morton Kaplan, and his two sisters, Linda Pike and Karen Zaucha and their families, all of Maryland.
When he wasn't working at Crossroads Ford, Eric foremost loved spending time with his family and always loved sharing in his daughters' achievements. Eric was an avid golfer at the MacGregor Downs Country Club and loved all things related to sports, Disney World and presidential history.
All who knew him will recall how sharp, funny and likable he was. Eric knew no strangers and had the ability to make all around him feel instantly at ease with his sarcastic sense of humor. He was incredibly patient and kind. He cared so deeply for his wife and two daughters, always putting them first.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, February 15, 2015 in the Chapel at Colonial Baptist Church, 6051 Tryon Road, Cary, NC. The family will greet friends at the church after the service.
The family wishes to thank all of his friends for their prayers, thoughts, and love throughout the past year. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lung Cancer Initiative of NC.
